Sally’s Sweet Shoppe

  Bakery * Indulgent Treats

We're a fun, sassy, kitschy, small batch, little bakery where we make everything, yes, everything , from scratch.  We make an array of items each morning on our breakfast pastry line, at least three different breads each day, desserts, bars, & cookies all day long, decorated cookies & cakes, custom dessert orders and we also supply to our local restaurants, coffee houses and catering halls.

We are the proud neighbors of the National Historic landmark, Ten Chimneys ~ the summer home to Alfred Lunt & Lynn Fontanne ~ in the sweet, tiny little town of Genesee Depot.

We may not kiss you when you walk in our front door, but we bet we can bake as good as your Momma!  Now getcher buns in here!

We are always adding to our website, so check back often, or for up to the minute information, you can "Like Us" on our
Facebook page.  We tweet too!  Simple little notes of what's hot in the bakery!  Here's the link to follow us on Twitter!  Sally's also offers free Wi-Fi!  Ma'an we're cool. :o)

Open Tues - Fri from 6:30 - 2:00
Sat & Sun  from 8:00 - noon

Closed Mondays for "Creative Rejuvenation"!

Our Gang....

Cute family hey? :o)  This is our first day of business, September 1st, 2010.

I'm glad I have this picture to remember the day by because the entire day is a blur in my mind!  And the rest, as they say, is history!

{Sally, her husband "Buddy", Caroline "Mary", & Annie "Gracey"}

BEHIND THE NAMETAGS....

Gracey

Picture
Hey there world!  I'm Annie, aka "Gracey" (aka "The One Who Helped Take down most of the wallpaper in the bakery") for those who've seen me in my name tag.  I'm 16 and a Junior at Waterford High School this year.  For someone of my (young) age I have a pretty good idea of what I'd like to do with my life.  For starters, I'd like to go to college to become a writer/travel journalist ~ mostly because I LOVE to travel and write. Ya, I'm tricky.

I work at Sally's, well....not very often.  BUT, when I do, I quite enjoy it.  For several reasons, the first of which being, I enjoy the money. :o)  Secondly, I love doing something, being a part of something…and also, I do sooo enjoy working a cash register.  I'm a fun girl who loves to read, swim, be with my family and push cash register buttons.  :o)

Megan
(I haven't earned a "special nickname yet, apparently)

Picture
Hello….My name is Megan. I am 24 years old and graduated from WCTC ~ Culinary Management! I had to (pretty much) get on my hands and knees and beg Sally for a job at the bakery, but I think she is glad I wouldn’t stop harassing her! Now I am her first and only real employee who is not family :o)

Now that I graduated you will be seeing a lot more of me and less of Sally. Why you ask, well because Sally will be getting me ready to take over and own the bakery (or so she hopes) in about 4 years when her youngest daughter graduates!  When I am not working or in school I love spending time at the barn riding my horse Tiger or cuddling with my cats!  I also love to travel, watch the Packers and Brewers, and spend time with my family and friends.  Oh and yes, it is true...Sally and I share the exact same birthday!  How 'bout that?!

Mary

Picture
Hi, I'm Caroline (my name tag says I'm "Mary", but it's lying, that's only my middle name). I am a 14 year old freshman at Waterford Union High School. I hope to eventually graduate college and cooking school and become a food stylist, restaurant owner, and/or magazine editor.

I like to think that I am one of the only 9th graders I know who has a "pretty much once a month, part-time job" because of my work at Sally's Sweet Shoppe, but that's not the only reason why I work there. I mostly work here to make money, but I really like wearing the special shirts the employees wear. :o)  I also just love the experience of using a cash register, handling customers, and making things in a real bakery. I think it's important for everyone to have experience of the job they want to pursue while they are still young, and also to just have fun with it all.  And also, my Ma (Sally) thought you should know that I am obsessed with food....my Ma put that in there without me knowing it!

Buddy

Picture
Hi, my name is John, or as my children call me…Buddy.  I am Mr. Sally Sweet Shoppe. I love our little shop that Sally, aka Tracey, and I made (with a lot of help from her Dad!).  It represents us both so perfectly, a little off center and very fun.  I have absolutely NO experience baking (and my mom was a horrible baker), but I love to do dishes and mop floor (no, seriously, I do).

I work at the Shoppe on most weekend days and love doing it.  Whenever Tracey is feeling guilty because I’m working everyday (Shoppe on weekends and my regular “Joe” job on weekdays), I tell her not to because I love it.  Everyone that comes into the Shoppe is so happy and no one is upset with me, unlike my Monday through Friday job.

The other benefit to working at the shop, other than working through my OCD issues, is the free food.  Yes, I am one of those people on the side of the highway with a sign that says…”will work for food”.  In my case, it is Sally’s kringle and cookies.  I’m OK getting paid in with whatever falls off the table.

Sally...or Tracey...or What is is anyways?!

Picture
Well, that leaves just me -- Sally...Tracey......??  Many moons ago, my best friends started calling me Sally Sunshine (well, one friend started it, and it took off from there...funny story, ask me to tell ya' sometime).  Anyway, they started calling me Sally Sunshine because I really am a joy-filled person.  I'm not sure why everyone isn't really?  Why be any other way I say!

I've been a professional baker since I was 16 years old -- it's just in my blood.  I graduated from cooking school 25 years ago and have baked at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, some great restaurants, and was the Head Baker at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Brookfield.  In 1993, I decided that the hours and industry, in general, had taken their toll on me, so I left the food industry and went to go work for one of my customers in the construction field -- my other passion!

That is where I have been for the past 17 years, until in 2009 I decided to quit my perfectly good job (in the height of the worst economic recession our country has known aside from the Great Depression).  Yeh, I thought that was a "good move"!  Well, after months of being unemployed, my husband and I decided that I didn't need to work for a great employer, I needed to BE a great employer and a couple months later -- TA DAHHH!!  Sally's was opened for business!  So no, I haven't dreamed of this my whole life, but what I have ALWAYS tried to do, is to touch, move and inspire people with my work -- now I get to do that in a physical sense too.  Amazing the plans that God has for us...even more amazing when you get out of the way of your own self and start being and doing those amazing plans!
